Description
The official Supersport was made from 2011 to 2014 and quickly became Caterham’s most popular model of the time. When it was launched it was an instant hit with all automotive critics, offering the perfect balance of power and grip for maximum fun and usability on the roads of Britain.
Many used Caterhams masquerade as Supersports, but most are converted race cars or upgraded Roadsports. There are a few clues that give away a true Supersport. First, they come with their own bespoke dashboard layout, which sees the standard long line of switches stacked into two rows of four in the centre of the dash, with the three dials off to their left. They also all had a single central change up light between the speedometer and the rev counter, which illuminates just before you reach the 7400rpm rev limiter. As standard they also all came Suede Momo Steering wheels, carbon vinyl tunnel tops and carbon vinyl boot covers, though some had these options exchanged for alternative options.
This Supersport is as close to brand new as you could hope find with just 5200 miles on the clock. Painted in Porsche Riviera Blue and completed with white Superlight stripes, this Supersport looks every bit as good as it performs.
This really is one of the very best models ever created in Caterham’s history. But a motoring journalist will tell you this far better than we ever could; so if you are interested, read what Andrew Frankel had to say.
I know we in the enthusiast press are fond of banging on about minimising mass but it’s only when you get into a car weighing barely more than half a tonne — less than half the weight of something like a Ford Fiesta — that its importance becomes so clear. It is simply and physically impossible for a conventional performance car with, say, three times the weight and three times the power to respond quite so accurately and immediately to its driver’s commands. Not even the cleverest designers in the world can engineer their way around inertia.
