Caterham Roadsport VVC 160

This Roadsport is pretty much a dead ringer for a Superlight R300, with all of the key technical specifications that made the R300 one of Caterham’s most highly regarded models.

The VVC version of the K-Series engine allowed for Variable Valve Control. Fundamentally this enable the engine to produce more power by altering the speed at which the valves opened and closed as the engine changed in RPM. In working practice, although this alteration of the engine did produce more power, it’s real gain was in torque.

The VVC engine was offered in Caterham range from around 2005, and over time was seen in two variations. The earlier edition producing around 150bhp, and an updated version from 2006 which produced 160bhp and took over from the roller barrelled X-Power engine used in the Superlight R300 of it’s day.

Although this is an earlier edition of the engine, it has subsequently been re-mapped by the well known K-Series tuning specialist “K-Maps”, who predict this car will now be running 160-165bhp. The remaining spec of this car makes it nearly completely identical to a Superlight R300. Complete with a 6-speed close ratio gearbox, limited slip differential, wide track suspension with watts-likage at the rear, big brakes, it has it all.

This particular Roadsport has been loved like it was part of the family at its most recent home, and although it has been used, it has been extremely well taken care of. Following a small incicent in 2021, the opportunity was taken to fully repaint the car and recondition large parts of the car as they went. So although this car may have covered a few miles, there are few in such good condition.
