For those of you keen to work on your Caterham at home, we’re going to show you the best and safest way to jack your car up, place it on axle stands, and how to drop it back down again.
Here’s a summary of the process:
- A standard 1.25-ton jack and three axle stands are required.
- Start by jacking up the back of the car using the designated jacking point, placing two axle stands under the chassis rail.
- Then, jack up the front of the car using the towing eye on the driver’s side, and place a single axle stand under the centre frame where it forms an ‘X’.
- When lowering the car, it’s important to release the front axle stand first, followed by the rear. Keep a very close eye on the stability of the car throughout the process — watching the rear axle stands to make sure they’re not rocking back (the jack needs to be able to roll back and forth as you lower)
