Caterham lighting has been a keen topic of conversation for a very long time. It is no secret that Caterham genuine light clusters originate from an early 1950’s caravan, and their standard headlamps are about as useful as a pair of candles being shone through a microscope.

Our Expert Opinion

Starting with the headlights, whilst Caterham’s headlight upgrades package provides a cool new look, with a central horizontal daytime running light, and multiple LED projectors, they are quite expensive with the eye-watering price tag of £1106.96 plus fitting!

This could easily be forgiven for an outstanding product, after all, you can’t put a price on safety.

Unfortunately, though, the new lights do have one quite fundamental flaw – the transition to high beams.

Whilst the full high beam does produce an excellent amount of light which travel a long way down the road ahead, in activating them the low beam section of the headlamps are switched off. The low (or dipped) beam is the part of the headlamp which lights road directly in front of you, and with these headlamps the peripherals too. By switching to high beams you then lose visibility of the kerbs and hedges to either side of you, which can be a disconcerting feeling when navigating country lanes at night.

Our Solution

Here at Turn 7 we have tried and tested numerous headlight options before settling on our Caterham headlight upgrades as the recommended units. These, like the Caterham official headlamp, have a central horizontal daytime running light, and provide a very comparable amount of light to the Caterham option on both low and high beams. The difference with our Caterham headlight upgrades is that when the main beams are activated, the dipped beams stay on as well.

As one of Callum’s earliest customers and now a repeat Caterham buyer I have observed the Turn 7 evolution from small start-up into an expanding sports car business that specialises in Caterhams. As with all successful start-ups, Callum exudes his dream and works hard to succeed, he demonstrates competence and self reliance coupled with a well informed, flexible and friendly approach to customers. His knowledge of Caterhams differentiates him from others and makes the buying process very enjoyable. My latest car evolved through a series of modifications to the appearance, paint job and decals, safety changes and an upgrading of the engine to produce a vehicle that is greatly improved and in my opinion beautiful. What a great experience it was to buy my second Caterham from Callum at Turn 7 - I sold my first one 30 years ago. It was clear from the outset that Callum was extremely knowledgeable about all the Caterham models and after very lengthy discussions about my past car and bike ownership, his recommendations were very welcome. Throughout the process I felt Callum really cared, above all, about helping me getting the right car for me, nothing was too much trouble. Additionally, the after sales service being provided is first class too. I'm not planning a change but if I ever do, I wouldn't hesitate going to Turn 7 for my next Caterham. Just had my suspension set up at Turn 7, having noticed uneven tyre wear, recommended by another satisfied customer.To say it was worth the 70 mile drive to get there would be an understatement.
